# Database Update Required

 * I have been using WordPress for several years and recently I have been receiving
   the following message fairly frequently:
 * Database Update Required
 * WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update
   your database to the newest version.
 * The database update process may take a little while, so please be patient.
 * Update WordPress Database
 * This message started to appear about a month or so ago and I’ve always click 
   on the Update button. I seem to be getting this message every couple of days,
   maybe two or three times a week. I don’t remember getting this message or request
   until last month.
 * This message appears randomly as I click on a menu item from the dashboard. Once
   I update the database the system seems to work as expected, at least until the
   next update request appears.
 * Is this normal? Is there something that needs to be addressed? Any information
   or guidance is appreciated.

 * No, it is normal. Is your WordPress version up-to-date? It used to be a bug in
   core:

 * Thank you for your reply.
 * I am using version 4.8. As I said, I have gone years without seeing this message
   and now it appears regularly. It seems strange but I will accept it.
