I’ve set BackupWordPress to backup my files and database once a week and my database once a day as well. The problem is that it says “Backup my database (13 MB)” but when it backs it up, the sie of the file is only 1 MB, or 536 KB. This happens on a few of my other sites as well. Do you know why this is? Does this mean it’s only backing up a small part of it?

The database backup will always be much smaller than the actual size of the database itself, because it compresses so much via the backup. What you can do is unzip one of the database backups and see if the unzipped version of the file is closer to the actual size of your database. Let me know!

Ah, yes. Of course, that makes sense. It always throws me off sometimes when I see the file size compared ot the “Backups my database” size. So the Backups my database size is the actual file size, and the downloaded file size is the compressed, zipped version. Got it. Thanks.

Does the backup estimate include excluded large (shared) directories? My backup estimate seems to include excluded large (shared) directories so it is always way off.

Hey there @wdhppr – it might not have updated the site size after excluding those large directories. If you click on the top of that column on the directory size I think it will reconfigure it with all excludes. Let me know if you need more info on that, or if you have tried it and it didn’t work.

    Thanks,

One more question: I’m backing up to my Google Drive account (each day for seven days for the databases, once a week for two weeks for everything). I’ve noticed that it backs up to my server and Google Drive, but is there a way to make it so that it ONLY backs up to Google Drive and not my server? Thanks.

    Thanks Kat,

Clicking on the top Excludes column item (Included Size) for the root directory \var\www just spins forever. I suspect that the mapped drives for our bulk document and videos directories, which is a mounted windows share, are causing an issue that is giving size sizing calculation difficulties?

That could definitely be causing issues. As you’re also using a premium extension, feel free to either email us directly at backupwordpress@hmn.md or enable support and send me a message on your site, and we can try to help you with customizations?

    Thanks!
    Kat
