In the process of upgrading my wp, to wp2.1, I am unable to restore my database. I have tried to follow the tutorial in the linl : / http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/restore but could not get through the final step of restoration.
i.e. executing sql query & inserting the content of my file.

I have a safe copy of saved database .sql file with me.

Could someone suggest me, how should i overcome this problem?

  • You probably need to list what errors you’re getting.

sql query has now successfully executed & file content has also been insterted. but…
when i tried to see my blog http://www.medinmark.com/careerdestination/ it reads… WordPress database error: [Unknown column ‘link_count’ in ‘where clause’]
    SELECT * FROM wp_categories WHERE cat_ID > 0 AND link_count > 0 ORDER BY cat_name ASC

Kindly explain, what has to be done…

Well, if you restored a pre WordPress 2.1 database to 2.1 install, you might have to run wp-admin/upgrade.php again…

how am i supposed to do that, Sir?

I am new to the wordpress environment. Kindly explain.

    Thanks

And I’m new to reading minds. 🙂 Was this a working/functioning blog before you started the upgrade?

Assuming that you are indeed doing what I asked about, you’d run the upgrade script just like you did when you first upgraded… per the Upgrading_WordPress directions.

    Namely, point your browser to

    http://yoursite.com/blog/wp-admin/upgrade.php

(where yoursite.com/blog represent wherever it is you’ve put WordPress, of course)

Thanks a lot sir! I have been able to get over my problem with your help.
No doubt, this was vfery much a functional blog earlier, but was still in nascent stages & i knew very little about its administration.

    Anyway,

    Thanks & Regards

    Happy blogging!
