Support » Fixing WordPress » database repair – tables crashed or not closed

  • My website hosting service had server problems yesterday and my wordpress installation (at http://callybooker.co.uk) was affected. I followed the instructions to add the repair command to my config file, but after running the repair I get the following residual errors:

wp_comments: 3 clients are using or haven’t closed the table properly
wp_options: Table is marked as crashed
wp_commentmeta: 3 clients are using or haven’t closed the table properly

As I received some new comments during the day yesterday, I’m guessing that these files were active when the server was unstable and have been corrupted as a result.

I am a very basic level user and have no idea what the implications are. I was suprised to be able to go to my most recent blog post and add a comment without any difficulty, for instance.

Is there something I can do to fix these files? Do they need further fixing?

Have you contacted your hosting provider?

Yes. Not much help there. They always like to bat me back to wordpress…

    Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – finally, repairing all of the tables in your database.

Okaaaay… I might be able to cope with that…. Thanks, esmi, I will have a go.
