Support » Fixing WordPress » database migration problem

  • Hi all,

I made a new site to replace a previous one, and opened a directory in the old site. I was trying to move the wordpress site from the directory to the main domain, but something went wrong. I’ve copied the FTP files, imported the database and modified the wp-config, but the links still remain the ones that were in the old URL. I’ve tried to change the old URL in the database through SQL, with search and replace plugins, but it gives an error.
Does someone have any ideas of what went wrong or am I just a newbie on this ☺

    Many thanks

Try installing using a new database.

    Hi Esmi,

    Thanks for the quick answer.
Yes, that was what we did. However, changing the references in the old URL, it gives an error.

    Thx

Sorry? Can you elaborate on this?

Opening the pages, it was pointing to the old URL. We did a search & replace to the new one. All of this in the DB.

Is there any migration tool or plugin that is normally used in these kind of migrations?

    thx

Not one I could personally recommend. Have you reviewed Moving_WordPress?
