Database location? (7 posts)

    Hi, I'm switching to a new host who has asked me for the data source path for this wordpress site (assuming that he'll need it to redirect the existing domain name, which he manages, so that I can replace the old static html site with a great new wordpress site). I know the database name (found in my wp_config file), but I've looked everywhere and cannot find the path to the SQL database that runs my WordPress site. Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. I feel like such a fool, every other aspect of building a site with WordPress has been pretty intuitive, I'm just lost here. Thanks.

    there is no path to Mysql database as wordpress connects to database from with in wp-config.php and you will find details in the file

    // ** MySQL settings - You can get this info from your web host ** //
    /** The name of the database for WordPress */
    define('DB_NAME', 'database_name_here');
    /** MySQL database username */
    define('DB_USER', 'username_here');
    /** MySQL database password */
    define('DB_PASSWORD', 'password_here');
    /** MySQL hostname */
    define('DB_HOST', 'localhost');

    this is what connects to Database.

    Thank you govpatel - that makes perfect sense to me. It's what I was thinking - but I thought I was crazy when asked for a direct path. Thank you for giving me the right words to explain this!

    Thanks govpatel before Im so confused where is the physical file of my database. By the way I'm moving to a new hosting I would say that its hard to transfer especially in database side.

    If you are using cpanel and you are moving new host with cpanel you can backup database by clicking in backup icon and restore on new host with the same database name.

    Or you can export the database directly from PhpMyAdmin which you'll find in cPanel under Databases

    Not all cPanel accounts display a backup icon
