    Hi,

Last night I managed to get on the front page on Fark for the first time. This morning, my site’s not responding. I get the error:

    ———————–
    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    ———————–

I can get into the admin and my stats package is working which uses it’s own db.

Does anybody know if this might be anything I’ve done or anything that might have been corrupted? I’m running the latest version of WordPress.

    Thanks,

    David.

  • It appears all is well again at your site, but note that when a Fark or Slashdot or what have you start sending traffic your way and it’s not prepared for it, that can certainly overload a server, both web and db, and cause connections between the two to go down.

Thanks Kafkaesqui. I’ve had to reinstall WordPress and disable some of the plugins. At some point, the db had got corrupted and I had to go a backup. I’m wondering if the one I was using to create Wordclouds was slowing things down too much. It was probably accessing the db far too much, counting every word on the site and then counting the number of occurances *for evey single page load*.

I’ve learnt my lesson and will now try to keep my pages at a minimum.

    Thanks.
