Support » Networking WordPress » Database error after reseting main site

  • Hello everyone,

I have been running a multisite installation in order to have different versions of websites I am working on running on 1 wp installation.

I had no problems, until I decided to reset the first and main site (the one I build first and was at top level). I used the reset plugin.

Right after doing that, I got
Error establishing database connection
In the past, I used the same plugin to reset content of the other sites without a problem (they would just appear blank, with no content and the default theme & settings).

Any ideas why this happened or how to fix it?

    regards in advance,

    What reset plugin?

    This one?

It’s … not flagged as being Multisite okay. It may have seriously ganked things.

thank you, I have realized that..

It worked ok -as I mentioned- for the rest of the sites I created in the network, but resetting the main site just deleted everything.

I replaced the wp-config.php & web.config with the ones I kept since before creating the network
this brought me back to a working version with no data.

That makes a certain amount of sense, given that the wp_<foo> tables in your DB are for both the main site and some of the network settings. Subsites are encapsulated as wp_x_<foo>, but there’s a bit of crossover in the main site, due to the fact that it starts life as a single install of WP.

You need to restore your database. And not use that plugin on Multisite 🙂
