  • Earlier today all of a sudden my site went down with a database error:

    Error establishing a database connection

When I try to go to the admin panel, it says:

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

I’ve checked all the things mentioned and it’s still not working. I got in touch with the support desk of our hosts, and they said:

We tried to login to your database and we got this error message.

#1203 – User aw_temp already has more than ‘max_user_connections’ active connections

This seems to be one of the reasons why the database failure is displaying. We referred your case to your engineers and was told that this has something to do with your scripts. You need to check them to ensure that they are closing the connections properly or else this is going to keep happening from time to time.

Can anyone tell me – in plain English (because I’m not exactly an expert with this kinda stuff) – what exactly I need to do to rectify this?

    Thanks in advance.

[No bumping. If it’s that urgent, consider hiring someone.]
