# Database error

 * Calling all cleverer than me….
    Supposing that there once was an idiot! And perhaps
   he was in the process of installing a new WordPress site. Believing he was clever
   he logged into the control panel of his hosting company, and he noted the long
   and complicated U/N and P/W details of his relevant MYSQL database. He then edited
   his wp-config file based on the above, saved the file, uploaded it on ftp and
   subsequently navigated to [http://www.domain_name/wp-admin/install.php](http://www.domain_name/wp-admin/install.php)
   and received a “Error establishing a database connection”. Where might this idiot
   have made an error? If you let me know I will be sure that he gets the message.

 * He may have incorrectly transcribed the long and complicated U/N and P/W details
   of his relevant MYSQL database into his wp-config.php file. I’d suggest he doublechecks
   this file and also ensures that he is using the correct MySQL host name.

 * Thanks Esmi, I passed this on to my hard of learning friend and he found a rogue
   hash stroke on his U/N. He then emtied the folders on the offending db after 
   a prompt from wp but he now gets the following error from wp maintenance:
 * The wp_commentmeta table is not okay. It is reporting the following error: Table‘
   stbocouk_446565_db1.wp_commentmeta’ doesn’t exist. WordPress will attempt to 
   repair this table…
    Failed to repair the wp_commentmeta table. Error: Table ‘
   stbocouk_446565_db1.wp_commentmeta’ doesn’t exist
 * He has contacted the hosting company but suspects he won’t get much joy there…
 * Any thoughts?

 * I then deleted the folders on the db in readiness for the new ones and it all
   worked!
 * Did I say I, I meant to say my friend then did that eh!
