 * I just tried to access my website and after the WordPress login page i got a
white screen that jusr says “Database Error” and cannot see any of my website.
 * I just updated 5 plug ins. That is the only change I have made.
 * I’m guessing that one of them has caused the issue. Since I cannot access my
dashboard i will need to disable them through FTP I suppose. What is the best
   way to do this?

 * Rename your plugins folder to something other than what it is. Check if you can
access the site after that. If you can, then you can pinpoint that it is indeed
a plugin. If it doesn’t help, check your db settings in wp-config.php to see
if a plugin has changed them.
 * If that still doesn’t resolve it, check your db server is working at your hosts
   end.

 * Thank you. I have renamed the folder and can now access the website.
 * Of course it says that there are no plug ins-how can I re-introduce them one
by one? Would it be a case of creating a new plug-ins folder and adding them
   one by one to that?
 * A little worried about making things worse so greatly appreciate your help. Thanks.

 * Ok, I would download the plugin folder using FTP (back it up). Then delete everything
INSIDE the plugin folder on the server.
 * You then have a plugin folder with – essentially – no plugins. One-by-one you
can then re-upload a plugin to the folder and see which one breaks the site.

 * So rename the original plug in file to re-upload into then?

 * No renaming needed. Just backup your plugin folder onto your PC, then delete
all plugin INSIDE the plugin folder on server. After that, you have a plugin
   folder but empty.
 * Then one-by-one, drag a plugin over from your backup (which you just downloaded)
and see which one causes the issue.

 * I have finally completed the back up and added a couple back but on wordpress
it still says that I have no plugins?

 * Plugins folder called plugins? ie, you didn’t rename it or anything?

 * I changed it just to plug. When I went back onto my dashboard i had the usual
   plug-ins folder, just empty.

 * Seriously, I can’t even upload new plugins now? The back up program that I had
has done it in the wrong format and my web hosts don’t have one at all. Have
   no idea what to do.
