• Hi there,

I just did some plugin upgrade on one of my clients site. I didn’t pay too much attention about this and now I’ve noticed that weird character encoding are appearing in my content.

You can see an example here – http://www.ccscoatings.ca/category/news/

I suspect that my database is no longer UTF-8.

Other than doing a find and replace in the db, is there another way to fix this?

Can anyone remind me what the SQL command is for find and replace?

I grabbed an older copy of my database and replaced my new one. This took care of the weird character encoding.

The only plugin that required changes in the db was the next-gen-gallery. I updated the database once again following the next-gen gallery plugin instructions and the weird characters didn’t come back, so I don’t think that the next gen gallery plugin was the culprit.

The only other plugins that were upgraded were the quotes collection and get custom field values. Perhaps one of these caused the corruption.

Anyway thanks to filosopho for the WP-DB-Backup plugin. It saved the day.
