Database connection errors and alternate content

  • I’ve seen a number of posts regarding the wordpress config file and the ever popular “Error establishing a database connection” message and that isn’t where my problems lies specifically. What I’m wondering is if there is a way to show some alternate content when this occurs?

For example, if my hosts database server goes down and I want to keep the site going with some basic info instead of the janky machine error. Any suggestions would be great!

I think it is more likely if your host has a problem it won’t be with the db. Most likely you will get a 404 error and you can have a custom page for that no problem.

I have been with my host for 6 years and AFAIK have never had a db problem but I can understand that you might want to be ready. Perhaps your host could give you some help? I think a change could be in wp-settings but messing with core files can have unforseen results.
