  • Hi

Just a quick question to (hopefully) confirm something for me.

Having activated the Database backup plugin and used it to backup the database files for my blog, does that give me all the files I need to have backed up if I were to have to wipe my system and reinstall from scratch?

Keeping hold of themes and the like isn’t a big deal for me, just as long as the content with correct dates etc exist.

I would guess then that after the reinstall of WP I’d just have to bang the database files back over into the MySQL table?

    Many thanks

    Dave Smith

  • Just for clarification: there NO files in the database. In database there is… data 😉
Backing up the database means you save all your content: posts, Pages, comments, settings (people usually forget this latter one!). Usually it is one big .sql file (or a zipped file).

And yes, after re-uploading your WP files you can import the saved data into the database – provided the old and the new WP version is identical; i.e. the database of a 1.5.x version will not work with WP 2.x files.

    Does this help?

That’s great, thanks for your help… and the data clarification… 🙂
