I’ve been having some problems since I tried to upgrade to 2.5. After upgrading the site was wiped of all of my customizations and content. However, the db still shows everything intact. I’ve tried reinstalling and the wp-config shows the correct db. Somehow there’s still a discrepancy btwn the db and the site though. Any thoughts on how to fix?

    Thank you!

You might need to explain what the discrepancy is; otherwise, we’ll have to guess what’s happening.

Sure and I’m sorry I’m pretty technically incompetent when it comes to anything backend, so I might be missing things.

    > Upgraded from 2.3.3 to 2.5.
    > Installed instead of upgraded (wasn’t sure if that’s what messed things up, but I’m pretty sure the mistake was entering the wrong db info in the wp-config)
    > Check the site… got the “welcome to wordpress” screen instead of my old site w/new WP
    > Freaked out. Where’d my site go? I forgot to save a hard copy. A technical friend said to check the databases and I found one was the new db and the other had all of my content on it, so it wasn’t lost forever. I saved a copy of that.
    > Proceeded to uninstall WordPress, deleted the “new/wiped clean” db and created a new one, which I uploaded the old db to.
    > Reinstalled wordpress and added new db to wp-config
    > Still getting “welcome to wordpress” instead of my old content

Not sure why. The wp-config has all of the new db info and the db has the old copy of my site, so that should appear, right? Did I miss something when creating the db? I just did New > Name > add user > import db > edit wp-config

Pretty sure user error is happening somewhere. 😉

Thank you and let me know if you need more info, I don’t know what exactly you need, but I can supply whatever.

and created a new one, which I uploaded the old db to.

How? I mean how did you “upload”?
And just trying to figure out your logic: since the old DB was there… why did you need to mess with it?

Because I’m a dumb user that didn’t realize it was there or knew how to make it work.

Created it in cPanel, which is also where I added the new MySQL user and tied to the new db.

Now I have two databases: ex_wordpress and ex_example

I deleted everything off of the site and just reinstalled WP 2.5. Created the wp-config with the ex_wordpress db info.

ex_wordpress is the new db I created and uploaded the old one to.

    ex_example is the old one.

I’ve tried using both for wp-config and neither returns my old site even though both appear to still have it from what I can see in myPHP for wp_posts.

    You are saying again:
ex_wordpress is the new db I created and uploaded the old one to

You either are using the wrong word or you are doing something wrong.
Do you mean you imported the backed up .sql file into the database via phpMyadmin? Otherwise I don’t see how can you “upload” a database…

    Thread Starter rdrysdale

    (@rdrysdale)

Yes.. imported .sql file via phpMyadmin

    So, what they do?
Do you get an error message? Or what?

eh, check it out here: http://firstcoastsurfrider.com

I used to get the design of the admin /blog/wp-admin at least… now it’s gone. Either way I’m still not seeing the old site when I login.

    (@moshu)

Actually, it is recommended if you want real help… (I mean the link)

Now. That address is NOT correct. Your blog is here:
    http://firstcoastsurfrider.com/blog/ – in a subfolder.
Next, the two URL values in your admin > Settings > General seem to be wrong because it is looking for the stylesheet in the wrong place.

Next. If the old database still exists you should just point to wp-config file to that database. DO NOT try to install anything!

    (@moshu)

    One a second thought… re-reading your steps:

    > Proceeded to uninstall WordPress, deleted the “new/wiped clean” db and created a new one, which I uploaded the old db to.
    > Reinstalled wordpress and added new db to wp-config

Hmmm… If that means what I think it means, then no wonder it doesn’t work. If you run the install script AFTER importing the database, that’s nonsense: it wipes out everything and makes it a new install.

Ok, fixed blog folder issue. (once setup I want the blog to be in root folder, but I’ll deal w/that then)

    updating wp-config… brb

    Thread Starter rdrysdale

    (@rdrysdale)

Updated wp-config to old db. Now I’m getting “not found”: http://firstcoastsurfrider.com/blog/

    (@rdrysdale)

Just tried to log into admin and I’m getting “database upgrade required”. I assume that’s bc of reverting back to original db? Should I upgrade?

    moshu

    (@moshu)

    That’s one step ahead…
    Now try this:
    http://firstcoastsurfrider.com/blog/wp-admin/upgrade.php

EDIT. OK, try not to post in the same time, we will never communicate properly.
Yes, if you have 2.5. files you need to upgrade the DB, too.
