    Hello

I am helping a friend out with a new website. He has a current live Joomla site and I am replacing it with a new WordPress one. I have created a new folder inside the root folder and put all the wordpress files in there. I want to do this way so that the joomla site can stay live whilst I work on the WordPress site and then once it is complete I can remove the folders related to the old website.

Once all the wordpress files were in place I was taken to this page wordpress/wp-admin/setup-config.php that’s asks me for Database details, and this is where I am stumped? Do I need to create a database for the WordPress site? and if so will it be ok having two databases there? (one for the joomla site and one for the wordpress site?) If I do have to create a database how do I go about it?

    yes.

should be so long both are independent installs with separate directories and database.

There is also this guide for migrating content from Joomlaa: https://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_Content#Joomla

    Hi

It’s not necessary to create separate database for WordPress. You can use same database. The default prefix of wordpress database is different from Joomla.

    Thanks
