Data validation on custom meta fields

    How can I validate data entered in custom meta fields before saving a custom post type?

    Is jQuery the only way available?

    Simple scenario, a user enters alphabetical characters in a numerical field.

    Hi,
    javascript/jquery is the best to use because the user won’t have to wait until the page will be refreshed to get an notification/error message.

    Ok, but is it possible to use server side validation in this case?
