I am trying to see my Google Site Kit data, but I am getting the message:

Error: Looks like your site is not allowed access to Google account data and can’t display stats in the dashboard. To fix this, redo the plugin setup.

I click the link to redo the plugin setup and it opens a page that says:

Welcome to Site Kit! Let’s get you set up
    getting FILE verification token failed

I have been having this same problem since I updated the SiteKit plugin last week. I can find no way around this, so any advice is greatly appreciated!!

@spungedave Thanks for sharing. If you’d like to open a new support topic as per support forum guidelines we’d be happy to assist with your case individually.

Please include your Site Health Information within the support topic or privately after creating the support topic.

I’d also be curious to know if the plugin was working as expected previously.

Done, and as stated in the new case, yes it was working fine prior to the updates…

Many thanks for sharing, the Site Kit connection seems fine, although we can perform some additional troubleshooting steps. So we can try and determine the cause can you share the following information:

    1. Did you create the site locally before restoring using a plugin?
    2. Has Site Kit worked for you previously?
    3. When you open a browser incognito and access this link do you have permission to that Search Console property after logging into your site using the same Google account you’ve used to setup Site Kit?

    1. I did create the site locally, but Im not sure what you mean by restoring using a plugin? What do you mean by locally?
    2. Yes it worked previously
    3. yes it goes directly to the google search console information

    (@sandysbaptie)

Under search console in my site it says
Site Kit can’t access necessary data
Site Kit can’t access the relevant data from Analytics because you haven’t granted all permissions requested during setup. To use Site Kit, you’ll need to redo the setup for Analytics – make sure to approve all permissions at the authentication stage.

    Data error in Search Console
Error: Looks like your site is not allowed access to Google account data and can’t display stats in the dashboard. To fix this, redo the plugin setup.

i try to click on the links “redo the plug in setup” and it says getting FILE verification token failed

Many thanks for providing the additional information.

I did create the site locally, but Im not sure what you mean by restoring using a plugin? What do you mean by locally?

I should have been more clear. I was wondering if you migrated your website locally to your web host. When I mention local I mean any WordPress installs on your own computer using a service such as WAMP, a WordPress install which is accessible on your own computer only, not live on the internet.

In order to try and get connected can you follow the steps below and inform me if you’re able to proceed with viewing the dashboards?

    1. Disconnect from Site Kit (From the Site Kit dashboard click on your email on the top right and then disconnect)
    2. Open a browser incognito window
    3. Attempt Site Kit setup once more

Let me know if the above works for you.

Many thanks, that seemed to work.
One more question, how do i revoke / unverify an owner of the google search console? There are two owners but I am the sole owner now, and I would like to unverify the other account. How do I do this?
    Thank you

Good to hear it, I suspect everything should work as normal now.

One more question, how do i revoke / unverify an owner of the google search console?

While this isn’t something you can perform within Site Kit you can follow this guide to remove other property owners. You may need to unverify the user first.
