I upgraded to 2.7.1. Very bad mistake. Now all actions on the dashboard have 50-60% of timing out and giving a 404’d it, dude, message. IF I do get to the next screen it takes 30 sec to 3 min per action. Dreamhost swears it is not their server and I see this is really common problem.

  • A 404 error means the page you are looking for does not exist on the server. How did you upgrade? Automatically? Manually via FTP? It’s entirely possible that some of your files have either not been loaded at all – or not loaded to a directory WP expects them to be in.

I would try a manual update via FTP, following the FAQ in the codex and see if that clears this up.

Keep in mind that the fact there are a lot of messages on a “similar” problem does not mean anything in particular, since a lot of people simply don’t follow directions in the FAQ’s when doing things. They are not necessarily due to the same issue.

Thank you, saurus. I noticed one post that I could understand and it said to disable the plug-ins and – tah dah! it worked. sometimes I think that self hosted wordpress is entirely beyond me, but it helps so much that people like you take the time to try and help.

BTW the offending plug in seemed to be a links
