 * Wasn’t there a plugin that had options to turn off some of the crud in the dashboard?
   One would think there would be a toggle option already in dashboard to turn it
   off

 * There are several on the [WordPress Plugins Database site](http://wp-plugins.net/index.php?filter=dashboard&filter_search=Go...)
   that may do what you’re looking for. (I’m guessing because I don’t know exactly
   what you are looking to turn off)

 * Try WP-Dash; it’s being rewritten “to work with 2.0+” – but I’m using it on a
   dozen 2.0.4 installs, and it works fine as long as you don’t try to activate
   the recent posts/recent comments widgets.
