Dashboard options different on Self-hosted to wordpress.com

  • I just installed a new theme (Chateau theme) on my Server after testing it first by activating it on my domain.wordpress.com space.
On the wordpress.com site all the dashboard functions – ie under ‘Appearance’ tab I get Background, ipad, theme options, custom options etc, however in the self-hosted site with this theme none of those appear under the appearance tab -all i get there is ‘themes, widgets, menus and header’ as appearance options… so there is no way to set my background image plus many other functions are missing.
Why does the same theme have less options on my self-hosted site?

Any advice welcome, this is very frustrating 😉

Many themes on wordpress.com have been extensively customised compared to their freely downloadable counterparts. You will need to install plugins for the options you are missing.

Where do you find the plugins? Is there a good place that enumerates all the plugins that are missing and directs you as to which plugins are good quality to replace them?
