Hi @stesim. Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.
If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).`

Hi Roxy, Thanks for your reply. Ok, this will probably take me some time to figure out how to do that. I maintain my site, but try to mess with code as little as possible. I can see in the dashboard list of items that there are 4 updates available, but just like everything else, when I select it I am taken to the view version of my website.

Thank you Roxy. In the meantime I did get an email from my web host that there is some security risk to my site, suspicious 3rd party activity, etc. I have tried running a malware scan through them, but all they have found is that my WordPress is not up do date (I thought it updated automatically?).
Hi @stesim! Usually, minor updates happen automatically if your site is capable of one-click updates without entering FTP credentials (source: https://wordpress.org/support/article/updating-wordpress/).
On September 8, WordPress v5.8.1 was released. Maybe that is the update your host was referencing?
