Support » Fixing WordPress » Dashboad apparently hacked

  • Resolved inocuo

I’ve just upgraded my WP install to 2.2, and have found that the dashboard is not visible, instead, I get an obviously hacked page, apparently by INTERNATIONAL FORCE, with some references to ataturks etc.

The ‘new’ dashboard has remained visible after I installed the Dashboard Editor plugin by Aaron Dowden, and told it to replace the whole dashboard page with some test text.

I’d like to know where the hack could be coming from. I would assume that if it was a WP hack, I would have heard about it already, so if someone could point me to where this hack could have come from, I would really appreciate it.

Also, please note that this issue was not present before I installed WP 2.2, earlier today. It only appeared *after* I upgraded.

I can provide the page source code for the dashboard if required.

the page source, if you are talking about what you see you “view source” in your favorite browser, isnt what is needed — what you, and ONLY you can do, is look through your files, most notably everything within wp-admin/

If you need help feel free to zip up the files off your server and email them off to me @ whoo AT (remove.this) If you send them please identify yourself so I know what the email is in reference to also.

In the meantime — upload new files, and check the permissions on ALL your directories.

If you have your logs available – look at them, change your passwords, and contact your host.

Yep, I found the problem – there was an index.php file in the plugins directory that contained the new dashboard page. I’ve removed the file, and no hacked any more.

Passwords will be changed as of now, and I’ll check logs and see if I can find out when it happened and how.

    Thanks for your help.
