Support » Plugin: Subscribe2 » Daily Digest pulls the last 5 newest posts – Every day

  • Resolved importnut

When I first installed Subscribe2 everything worked well for several months. I believe it was after the 8.6 update, the daily digest began sending the last 5 newest posts, everyday regardless of whether or not they were new posts. I tried deleting the 5 most recent posts and it continues to send 5 of the next newest posts.

I have the current version, 8.8 installed in the current version of WordPress.

Not sure what could be causing this. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  • @importnut,

I’m not seeing anything like this on my sites. Could it be a plugin conflict?

    No idea.

I have jetpack installed, as well as “add this”.

I’m not a programmer and I really don’t know how to dig into the code. Is there something I can check to see if pages are flagged as new or something like that?

The only way that could be happening is if you are manually (or using some code) to re-date all of the posts you make on a regular basis. The digest email uses 2 date fields and collects posts between them. It doesn’t look for new posts as there isn’t a way to identify posts as new.

I haven’t manually done anything. I’m not a programmer, and would do more harm that good by trying to fix the code.

I wanted to reinstall the plug in and when I tried to delete it, I received this error message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function s2_uninstall() in /home/content/66/9716766/html/family/blog/wp-content/plugins/subscribe2/uninstall.php on line 23

Before I did this, I added a few new posts and when it sent the digest, I still have the 5 most recent, regardless of the age.

    Any thoughts?

The fault in the uninstall script is already known and fixed. You can access the working file here:

Are you using sticky posts at all? How many posts are included if you send the preview email from the Subscribe2->Settings page?

With the proper uninstall file, I was able to properly reinstall the plugin.

It seems to be working correctly now. I will experiment and let you know.

I suspect it was a corrupt database entry in that case. Glad it’s fixed and working again now.

In future, should this happen again, a quicker fix would be to revert to per-post notifications as this will clear the affected database keys. Then re-apply the digest settings.

All of my tests have worked. Looks like it was a corrupt database. Thanks for help and the pointers!

Excellent news, thanks for following up.
