Customizing post display

    Hi!

I’m just started to learn about WP. The thing is that I’m going to have a custom view of my posts, involving custom fields. I’m working with Twenty Eleven theme.

The question is what are the files where I can change post appearance? If I insert some coding into the loop (e.g. single.php), it goes before or after the post header and body. I would like to completely restyle the way the post look and include custom fields in this layout.

do not edit Twenty Eleven directly – start by creating a child theme http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes or possibly download one.

then try editing content-single.php and possibly content.php in the child theme.

Thanks, I’ll try that out. So anytime I need to change the way the posts look, I should work with Child themes and not alter theme itself?

Interesting – I activated the quirm child theme, it resulted in showing only 2 last of 5 posts. Is there any rule which selects posts in this child theme?

if a theme is likely to get updated frequently, it is recommended to use a child theme for customisation.
