  • hi, i’ve looked around for the following two problems and think i’ve hit a dead end.

    1. when adding text (to a post or a page), i would like for there to be an automatic “gap” after a certain number of words or characters. almost as if it’s a book that’s being printed, where you have to keep scrolling down for the next pages. inserting page numbers into this gap would be an amazingly added bonus. i’ve considered pagination, and it’s an acceptable default, but i would love to implement this instead if possible.

    2. again drawing from the book example, is there a way to make the first letter of a post be one of those huge sophisticated letters that books often start with? the question here is two fold – one, i have no idea if that entails a certain font. and two, if there’s a way to make it do that automatically to the first character only, so that this isn’t something that has to be manually done each time.

    any guidance much appreciated. thanks!

  • 1. I don’t know what you mean by gap. It would look strange to have random gaps in the middle of a sentence. I have never seen this in a book. If you mean automatic paging after xxx characters, I have searched and not found any plugins for that.

    2. Never seen anything like that but I guess you can manually change the font of any single character. In this post, I just change the T to 36 pt.

    Thanks for the reply, Patyuen.

For (1) I was referring to something like what is done here:

Notice how a possibly really long post of text is on a regular basis cut off to insert some blank lines and a page number. Makes it look like a book, at least to me.

For (2), thanks for the example. I suppose that’s what I’ll do. I was just wondering if there were some way of automating that so for every post, so that I could enter my posts as usual each time, and that would just happen automatically.

    1. That is not a WordPress blog so I imagine they just coded it in html to do that. I don’t find that particularly useful as a reader. Why do I need a prev/next navigation in a post that is vertical with all the content there? I’m fully capable of scrolling. I would rather see an automated paging function

    2. You might be able to find it in some themes. I vaguely recall seeing a theme for photographers that did that. Try searching Typography themes too.

    1. How can you tell that it’s not a WordPress blog? What I like about it is that the entire text is loaded right away, but at the same time is broken up a bit more viewer friendly. The fact that those are links doesn’t make much sense to me, and would be unnecessary. But the spacing and numbers are what I’m after. I understand that you don’t like it, but any tips for making it happen (where to insert code or anything like that even) would be much appreciated 🙂

    2. Thanks! I’m happy with my current theme, but I’ll hunt around for a theme that does that, maybe try to see how they accomplish it.
