    Hey People of Presto Player,

first, again thanks for your great plugin.

I’m trying to customize the play button (youtube video) with the custom css feature in my theme, and since the new release this isn’t possible anymore. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure why (maybe because you’re mainly using constructed stylesheets now?) , is this something you generally don’t want users to do due to stability issues or is there a best practice you can recommend?

I’m aware this is probably not a key functionality, I’d be glad to hear your thoughts about this anyway. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Best,
    Nik

    Hi Nik!

Our player is wrapped in a web component, which uses style encapsulation via the “Shadow Dom”. This prevents your theme stylesheet from overwriting and breaking the player styles.

Instead, you can use shadow parts and css variables to target specific parts of the player. What specifically are you looking to customize?

    Hey Andre,

again thanks for the quick answer.
I’m trying to customize the play button overlay, so its the <button> element with the classes “plyr__control plyr__control–overlaid”.

    Thanks in advance,
    Nik

    Howdy Nik,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

Unfortunately, it is not possible at the moment. However, we are already working on it. Nevertheless, I am unable to provide you an exact date for when this will be available.

    Have a great day.

    Best,
    Abz

    Hey guys,

I understand that, thanks for keeping me updated.

Last question: Might there be a way to hide that button completely somewhere?
That probably might involve in commenting out a piece of code at my own risk which I’m fully aware of.

    Thanks in advance,
    nik

Removing this button is available in our Pro plugin, which lets you customize the buttons in the player. There are a ton of options available that lets you choose which controls to have in the player.

Let me know if you need any additional assistance!
