# Customize Permalink Structure – HELP HELP

 * Hi All,
 * Using version Version 2.6.3
 * I choose the Custom Structure but it wouldn’t work so i went back to defult but
   i got this error message:
 * **Internal Server Error**
    The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration
   and was unable to complete your request.
 * Please contact the server administrator, *****@cool-freebies.co.uk and inform
   them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may
   have caused the error.
 * More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
 * Here is what is in my .htaccess file after i clicked default.
 * # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond%{
   REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.
   php [L] </IfModule> # END WordPres

 * Still can’t get it to work.
 * I renamed my .htaccess but after i renamed it another one popped up any other
   sugesstions.
 * Error messages:
 * Not Found
 * The requested URL /uncategorized/test-2/ was not found on this server.
 * ——————–
 * Internal Server Error
 * The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to
   complete your request.

 * delete your .htaccess and stop trying to redo your permalinks. everytime you 
   do so, you recreate the .htaccess
 * furthermore, did you chmod any of your directories to 777 in an effort to make
   your .htaccess writable ? that will also cause that error

 * I have managed to get it working now but can’t get my Permalinks back to default.
 * I get an error message.

 * Dear CoolFreebies,
 * Its pretty simple!
 * 1) Go to WordPress DashBoard-> Settings -> Permanent Links -> Change to the link
   structure you want -> save the changes
 * 2) Ssh to your Web server for example
 * ssh [user@yourwebsite.com](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/customize-permalink-structure-help-help/user@yourwebsite.com?output_format=md)
   
   cd BlogDirectory
 * Edit .htaccess
 * 3) Update the .htaccess with the changes required which is shown after the Step
   1
