Support » Fixing WordPress » "Customize" option under Appearance category in the admin panel not working

  • Resolved replica48

For the past week or so (I don’t use the option too often so I don’t have a good idea when it stopped working), whenever I click on the “Customize” link under the Appearance category the customize.php page loads with the sidebar on the left, but the links aren’t clickable and the page preview doesn’t load on the right side. I tried copying a version of customize.php from a backup from about a month ago (file itself dated in November 2013), but no changes. I’ve tried loading the page in Chrome and Firefox with the same issue. Any ideas what could be the cause? Thanks.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Thanks, I found that a plugin that I was using for creating custom widgets was causing the problem. When I disabled that, I was able to get the customize page to load correctly.
