Customizable Header Color and Text

I am creating a custom WordPress theme and I have figured out how to allow for a customizable background but how could I allow for the customization of the header color? My theme also has some text on the home page that’s not a part of a post. I want the use to be able to change that text. I am new to WordPress them design and I have tried to look through other themes that do the customizable text and have not figured out how to do it.
