Customers are telling me they are unable to add variable items to cart. When they select an option, usually a color, the “add to cart” button is still greyed out. If they try clicking the button, they get a pop-up that says “Please select some product options before adding this product to your cart.”

Refreshing the page, usually resolves this issue. So if a user can’t add to cart on the first try, they can do a hard refresh [command+Shift+R] and get an “add to cart” button after selecting their option. A regular refresh works sometimes, but not others.

I’ve read through a few other posts that had the same issue (here, here, and here), but couldn’t find helpful advice. Each of the solutions was different for those and doesn’t seem to address the issue I’m seeing. This has been a problem for a few years, but I noticed it’s happening far more commonly today, so I’d like to figure out what the fix is. Here is video of the issue happening

  • Hey @docpop ,

    Thanks for reaching out!

I’ve tested this across various browsers and it seems to only happen on Chrome. Here are my results after testing:

    CHROME (ISSUE EXISTS):

    SAFARI (ISSUE DOESN’T EXIST):

    FIREFOX (ISSUE DOESN’T EXIST):

Can you try test this on Safari and/or Mozilla Firefox and see if the issue is resolved there? If so, it seems there may be a conflict happening somewhere between the site and Chrome itself. In that case, can you try running through a full conflict test and see if that does the trick?

Here is more info on how to test for conflicts:  https://woo.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/

Please let us know how this goes!

My customers are telling me they are having this specific issue on a Samsung Galaxy (probably using Samsung Internet browser) and on an iPhone (probably using Safari Mobile). Oddly enough, Chrome is how they finally placed their order (which is probably a fluke). I’m not currently able to recreate it on my iPhone, but I have seen it happen on Safari mobile in the past.

    Hey @docpop ,

It can be a bit more tricky to narrow down the cause of the issue when you’re having difficulty reproducing it. However, when visiting your site again, I’m no longer able to reproduce the issue using Chrome, it seems to be working as expected now. I also ruled out possible caching by testing in Incognito:

Since the issue occurred consistently on my end when using Chrome previously, I’m curious if any changes or updates have perhaps been made to the site within the last few hours? This could help us narrow down the possible cause.

    Looking forward to your response!

Thanks so much for your help so far. I just tested https://doctorpopular.com/shop/the-weekender-yo-yo/ and had the same issue happen twice in Chrome browser, but still can’t get it to happen in Safari for iOS. I also tried it on an Android device and it worked fine.

I’ve only made one change on my site in the past week, which was installing “WPCode Lite“, a plugin which makes it easy to add a short code snippet to my header. I added a meta:creator tag in my header.

I also have auto-updates on for my plugins, so it’s possible there was an automatic update from Woo or some other Woo related plugin.

    Hey @docpop ,

Thanks for the update! It’s possible that an auto-update may have resolved the issue, and browser caching is at play here. Can you check if clearing your browser cache resolves the issue for you? Here is a helpful article on clearing cache in Chrome.

Also, can you check if there are any active Chrome browser extensions running on your end? If so, can you try temporarily disabling these and see if it makes any difference?

If none of that does the trick, can you see if you’re using the latest version of Chrome? You can check the latest releases of all browsers, and update them easily here:
