Custome permalink cause CGI error and server unavailable

    I am new to wordPress and have went through the forum for 1 week but can’t found the solution so I really wish someone can help me.
    I have been searching through the forum for 1 week for a solution of permalink.
    I am now using version 2.5.1 and under window hosting.
    My problem is by using the default permalink everything works fine but when I change it to /index.php/%postname%/,it didn’t work and cause a CGI ERROR.
    After a few time of CGI ERROR, it will cause server unavailable.
    I can’t find htaccess file in the wordPress folder. I try to create htaccess file on my own but I don’t really know what the content should put in the file.Can someone show me the content?
    I have also update rewrite.php but it doesn’t work.

    Are you using Apache? If so, is the rewrite module compiled in? Or if you’re using WAMP, make sure that module is checked.

    If you create a blank .htaccess file, and then switch permalinks, WordPress should write the appropriate entries.

    I have also update rewrite.php but it doesn’t work.

    ? What “update” ?

    Thanks.I thought .htaccess file should have content inside.I’ll create an empty .htaccess file later.
