    First, get all of you custom CSS into a child theme. If it was generated using plugins, then these will continue to work with the child theme.

    For customizations you have made to linked stylesheets, follow these instructions:

    After your entire theme has been migrated successfully to a child theme, then the hard work begins of making it responsive.

    The tutorial shows how I modified the old Twenty-Ten theme to be mobile friendly.
