Custom Type Categories

Hi everyone,
I created a custom type called Catalog for my web site. Here i will be showinig books, their category, author, etc. I already have all the custom fields set up and showing but i have a question that i hope someone will help me hopefully.

I want to assign categories and authors to the books for example: Book 1’s author is John Rodriguez, so i want to create a page with the biography of John Rodriguez and next to it display all the books that have been written by him.
Same thing with the category, i want to have a category for History and i want to display on this page all the books that belong to the History category.

Someone please help me out, i’m a kind of new on this CUSTOM TYPE thing so im lost. I hope there is a way to create a shortcode, something like [catalog author=”John Rodriguez] and it would display on that page the books written by him.
Is this possible?
