i am making a custom theme…i am fairly new to php but am able to copy and paste and am alright at writing css. i realize some of my code is pretty sloppy right now but am unsure why the sidebar is not working in IE and would work in firefox. i have used the theme minimalism but have adjusted most of it myself. some of these elements are widgts and other are not. i have used the code in the docs section for “widgitizing your theme” and have created div classes for the title and widgets, could this be what is causing the error?
i have also noticed something strange with my text hover in Firefox, some links work fine but other on hover do not highlight the entire word, the serifs at the beginning remain a:link.
I am sorry if any of this has been answered before in the forums!
ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!!! THANKS SO MUCH!
The glories of IE and Firefox butting heads on which will run your site and not (or in this case, parts of your site).
It’s extremely frustrating, I know. In a perfect world everyone would just remove IE and just be running Mozilla…unfortunately 70% + are still on IE, so it’s good that you’re keeping IE still in mind 🙂
first thing I noticed in your code is your missing a couple of carrots…
</div><div class="widget"<div class="title">ARCHIVES</div> <select name="archive-dropdown" onchange='document.location.href=this.options[this.selectedIndex].value;'> <option value="">Select Month</option> <option value='http://skiddysmith.com/blog/?m=200812'> December 2008 </option> <option value='http://skiddysmith.com/blog/?m=200811'> November 2008 </option> </select> </div><div class="widget"<div class="title">CATEGORIES</div><select name='cat' id='cat' class='postform' > <option value='-1'>Select Category</option> <option value="8">music</option> <option value="3">shows</option> </select>
notice there’s no carrot after ‘<div class=”widget”‘
Looks like there’s three of those instances in your code, try fixing that first, and see if that aids your problem with your side bar 😉
THIS HAS SOLVED THE PROBLEM! THANKS VERY MUCH!
still a few things to tweek for IE but overall much better… i agree with you… hopfully everyone comes around to Firefox!!
I am leaving this thread open as I still am unsure what is up with hover on my links in Firefox… if anyone has seen this problem before please let me know, my google/forum search has come up with nothing.
I still am unsure what is up with hover on my links in Firefox
This looks like a bug with FF and not WP related – I have it on other sites not using WP (DragonflyCMS for example). I did report it to FF as a possible bug but although others confirmed it, it otherwise seems to have been ignored – maybe you should try to report it there.
