Custom template question

  • Hi guys,

I am pretty new to WordPress and I have a question about creating a custom page template.

I successfully created a custom template and applied it to a page. But, it seems as though that this template (based on the way I created it) is specific to one page.

So, is this method generally used for a single page. For example is it best practice to create an ‘about us’ page template and apply it to the ‘about us’ page then create a ‘gallery’ page template and apply that to the gallery page etc.

If not, how do I go about editing the html in each page instead of doing it inside the specific page template?

It really depends upon what you need. One custom page template can be applied to multiple pages of the actual page content is created via WordPress and not within the template file.

Ok, well then my next question would be if you use one page template on multiple pages, how do you edit the content of each page. For example, how do all the pages not have the exact same content in them.

The page content would be handled via the Loop. Have you reviewed custom page templates?
