[Resolved] Custom Template for News Page

  • Hi!

I just started working with designing my own theme for a wordpress site and ran into a problem. My site isn’t really a blog, so I just want to display the posts on a “News” page with its own custom template and everything else should use the main template.

I made the template and it works fine, but when I set the “News” page as the Posts Page in Settings>>Reading on the Dashboard, it reverts back to the default template. How do I make it use my custom template?

I’d appreciate your help on this.

If you’re going to use the News page as your main Posts’ page, you need to edit the index.php template file.

I’m sorry, but I don’t understand what you mean. Do you mean that the only way to do this is have a custom template for every other page and use the default template for the News page? Because if there’s another way, I’d really rather the other way.

No. If you have set up a static front page and have set the News page to be your Posts Page, the News page will use the index.php template file. Not any custom page template you might have created and assigned to it. The main Posts Page always uses index.php. This does not affect your other pages in any way. They do not use index.php – unless that’s the only template file in your theme.

Thank you! That was what I was looking for.

    I have a question,

My customer wants to use WordPress (and is using WordPress) mainly as a CMS, he would like to posts “news” on a seperate Page (such as this: Home – Page – About – Page – News – Posts – Contact – Page)

    How would I accomplish this?
    Hoping for a reply! 🙂
