Support » Plugin: Participants Database » Custom signup template is looking at default fields as required?

  • My custom signup template is still looking at the fields from the default signup form as being required. Since they’re not included in my custom signup template, they’re never filled in.

I guess I can’t mix the custom signup template with a default template, but need to create all custom templates?

    Thanks,
    Bob

There are two ways to determine which fields are included in the signup form: by selecting the “signup” checkbox for the field on the manage database fields page, or by specifying which fields are shown in the shortcode using the “fields” attribute.

Using a custom template to control which fields are show will cause this problem if you have prevented required fields from showing in your template.

OK I understand that, but if I’m using the default signup template with a custom template, I’m always going to have this problem if my default template has fields that are designated as being required? If I have two custom templates will that prevent this problem?

you have two different signup forms? You just need to use the “fields” attribute in your signup shortcode to determine which fields are shown in the form. This doesn’t prevent you from using a custom template. You just shouldn’t use the template to control which fields are shown.

Yes, I have two signup forms.

I appreciate your explanation, but the reason I was using a custom template to display my specific fields is because I could filter them by groups. I have many fields, and the shortcode would be ridiculously long to include each field into the code. So, that’s why I was using two templates; then filtering the field groups by the code I’ve discussed with you in my other posts.

So I just read that we can use field groups rather than fields in our shortcode. That would be perfect. I just used the field groups in my shortcode and it’s a great solution! So, if I use field groups in my shortcode for the signup forms, what’s the purpose of a custom signup template? Do I really need them, if my shortcode will display the fields I want in the signup form and the fields I want in the lists? Sorry for being thick.

If you’re only using the template to control which fields are shown, then you don’t need it. The templates are good for adding functionality, modifying values and changing the HTML output.
