Custom post layout by category

    Is it possible either out of the box or via a child theme, or API call to ensure that when a post is made and is tagged as “category a” for example it uses the site layout that removes the sidebar? All other posts will continue to the the normal site layout with the sidebar.

    I can manually choose the layout in the post GUI, but cant see where to select it via an API post request.

    Any help is really appreciated. Thank you.
