I have heard Matt say in interviews and in blog posts that he believes the future of WordPress will be in its use as a platform. I believe he even reads his email within WordPress, each email being stored in the posts table with its own post_type, something like “email” instead of “post” or “page”. Does anyone know how you might add a custom page under Write and under Manage that creates posts with a custom post_type?
The most common use for that, I suppose, would be something e-commerce related where the custom post_type would be “product”? I don’t want products showing up as posts with a specific category (as they do in Yak or the Market Theme); I think that’s a confusing user experience. Nor do I want an completely separate administration like the WordPress e-Commerce plugin. I want to create a page that works and functions just like the Manage Posts list and the Manage Page list, that can be customized, and that can create records in the wp_posts table with a third “post_type”.
Thoughts? I believe this should be moved into the “Advanced” forum.
