 * Is it possible to have a custom post type that is singular?
 * i.e
 * Using a custom post type to make an editable home page that would only show edit
   rather than add new home page once 1 was added?

 * Not sure what you mean, _**editable home page?**_, a better description of what
   you want to achive might help.
 * 1. just use a normal page and set this in Settings > Reading?
    2. different single
   page layout for a post type? 3. save page.php as home.php and add in a post query
   to _**return only the first**_ custom post type?
