Custom post type menu position

  • Can a custom post item be placed within a menu hierarchy but not displayed in the menu?

    For example:

My primary menu: Home, Services, News

The Issue: I have a CPT called Service that I list on my Services page. When I view a Service I would like the menu to act as though we are on a sub-page of Services.

Not looking for a hack or hide by css but rather the correct way of placing a post within a menu hierarchy without displaying the item in the menu. Placing all items in the menu tree and hiding them is not an option as this effects performance.

I am a Drupal developer. In Drupal there is a module called Menu Position that allows you to specify where different types of content should display in the menu tree.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

  • Any thoughts on this? Could use some help here.

Seems to be a difficult task. No thoughts from anyone.

As an update, I haven’t figured out how to set menu position for each Custom Post Type but the plugin “Breadcrumb NavXT” allows you to set the parent menu item for each type. Which is great! But this only applies to breadcrumbs. If this would just set the active menu item also that would be awesome.
