In CPT UI, when you create a custom post type. you have the option of “Add[ing] support for available registered taxonomies”.

When you create a custom taxonomy, you have the option of “Attach[ing] to Post Type”.

What’s the difference between the two?

    Thanks!

I believe, fundamentally not much, though I don’t believe I’ve ever done a lot of deep diving into any differences in behavior depending on which “way” it was handled.

One of the so-called oddities with WordPress is that you can create a post type without attaching taxonomies, but you can’t create a taxonomy without attaching to at least one post type. So with that detail, I’d likely personally end up leaning towards letting the taxonomy creation establish the relationship.

    Thanks Michael,

I know I’m asking you to repeat yourself here, but for clarity sake: functionally speaking, as far as you know, as long as you attach the post type to the taxonomy, that should be enough to group a post type under a taxonomy and you don’t need to ALSO attach the same taxonomy to said post type?

    Thanks!
