Custom markup language in description?

I notice when you create a markup price, it automatically ads (markup +400) or whatever the price would be in the description field. Is there a way to have it “not” do that, or have custom text in there instead? Changing options in the “description behavior” doesn’t seem to have any effect. It still forces (markup +___) at the end of the description no matter what I do, even if I delete it and resave.
