# Custom function not working

 * Hi.
 * I want to change the look of `the_time()` for my posts, and has a funtion that
   will do that, but I can’t seem to get it working.
 * I have the function defined at the top of index.php (since I can’t seem to include
   a custom-functions.php file), and it works when used with a test variable outside
   the loop, but when trying to add it inside the loop, like so: `Spacing(the_time('
   M j Y'))`, it doesn’t work. I’m using WP 2.0.
 * Appreciate any input to this problem.

   wants it.
