Custom Fields not working – cannot add

My friend recently got a new theme for his portfolio and he wants me to set it up, but I’ve run up to a problem.
Whenever I try to add a new custom field to a page, nothing happens. I have already looked up for solutions, but none worked for me.
I would appreciate it if someone could help me!
