• Five MONTHS ago I posted a note about this problem. At that time I thought I found a bug #10511 which is still not solved in the code, although, there seems to be a patch. WHICH MUST BE APPLIED AFTER EVERY UPDATE….

But I’m not sure that this bug addresses the problem.

My problem is that if you put in a CUSTOM field, like
SLIPPERY 1, or SERIES or some other field, which some plugins require, then when you UPDATE the field is deleted.

This is a ROYAL PAIN IN THE KIESTER… CAN I BE MORE CLEAR? DO I NEED TO??? DO I SEEM TO BE SHOUTING???

Well, nobody is fixing bug #10511, and based on it’s description, I’m not even sure that it applies. I’m not using ENCLOSURES of any type. I am not sure that we are EVEN TALKING ABOUT THE SAME THING.

Just to be crystal clear. When adding or editing a post, scroll down to CUSTOM FIELDS and enter SLIPPERY and 1 in the CUSTOM FIELDS section and click ADD CUSTOM FIELD. You will see the field being added in the list above. Then if you click UPDATE at the top right, you find the CUSTOM FIELD has DISAPPEARED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AM I SHOUTING>… After 5 months and several updates, I am entitled to SHOUT. This is annoying at Heck. Excuse my French.

CAN WE PLEASE FIX THIS ONE!!!

I am using FIREFOX 3.5.7 with wordpress running on PHP 5.x.

Thank you so much for listening…… Or for clarifying my misunderstanding about how to use this OBVIOUS INTERFACE…..

    Thank you so much,

    ww

  • You might want to login to Trac (use your Forums login/password there) and add a comment there. If possible if you can install that patch there and acknowledge that it fixes the problem you might see some traction as far as getting it put into the core code.

I wonder if you have some plugin (maybe a cache one) interfering with your Custom Fields? I am not able to reproduce the problem in Firefox 3.5.7 or IE8 with either WP 2.8.6 or 2.9.1.

Here are the steps I followed:

    1. Posts->Edit and select a post to edit
    2. Click ‘Enter new’ in Custom Fields panel
    3. Enter Slippery in the Name box and 1 in the Value box
    4. Click ‘Add Custom Field’
    5. Click ‘Update’
    6. Scroll down and slippery/1 is still there.
    7. View page
    8. Posts->Edit and slippery/1 is still there
