custom community – sidebar as a static page – how?

  • Hi All,

I’m new in wp so please forgive me if this is a stupid question.

I need to put my 2 newest post (in full mode, not as a links only) in a place of sidebar (left).
All others pages should remained opened in content side – as usual.

I cant find solution for making my left sidebar as a static page.
I found one for twenty eleven for example but in custom community there is no home.php.

I did make child theme and put there sidebar-left.php and try to customize it but

    I will appreciate any suggestion.

    thx in advance

  • Hi gomper,

left sidebar as static page? not sure i get your problem… maybe i’m a bit stupid today also 😀

you can simply add a home.php to your child theme if that’s the problem..

otherwise maybe try to explain with a screenshot and some comments?

and a link to your site would cool also 😉

hope this helps, let me know, konrad

    So we both are 😉

I’ll try to answer you by making a question: what do You see when You open non customized custom-community wp main page? – You can see header (logo etc), a sidebar (let’s say it’s on the left) and the content which is by default, some of the latest blog post.

    My goal is to have
    a) two posts in a place where sidebar (left) is (and this left side should be a non dynamic(ly) changed whatever happens, and whatever I click),
    b) normal behavior of content pages – so when I click from Main Menu “about us” i will still have my latest two posts i a place of sidebar and I will got “about us” page in content displayed

Can You understand me at all ;)?

    hey gomper,

    i got you!

isn’t it simply when you add a “recent posts” widget to the left sidebar and set it to displaying 2 latest posts??

let me know if that’s it!

    cheers, konrad

Konrad thx for Your reply ;).

It’s not so simple as You think, or I am describing 😉

    Look at this:

One is the efect I desire, second is what You think I want 😉

If I make some mess just let me know I’ll send You those by email?

    still smiling and fighting ;))

    hi gomper,

then you would need to make a child theme and code it by yourself..

take the left-sidebar.php file, copy it into your new child theme and go from there on..

i cannot give you complete instructions, but if you run into any problems just go to the themekraft support base: http://support.themekraft.com and write a support ticket..

    hope this helps, konrad
