    Hi I have a lot of long links in my urls, now if I use the Custom Canonical URL will that mean I have to do a 301 for each time I add a new url? Sorry newbie and wondering if it makes a whole lot of mess for me to fix for google indexing again.

    If you set a custom canonical for a page then yes you’d need to do the 301 redirect.
    If you’re unsure of what to do with the custom canonical URL feature, it’s best to leave it at the default. It’s more for advanced users.

    Bugger that would be a lot of redirects as there are so many long tail words in sub subs menu items.
    I don’t think google would like me to have so many 301 redirects would they?
