  • Hello,

I am working with a designer that wants to do a custom build instead of using Thesis or Genesis. He states we would mock it up in something like Dreamweaver, then convert it to WordPress.

He mentions that it would be faster and would not break during WP updates.

What are the pitfalls to doing something like this? Are there some specific things I need to worry about?

I’m afraid that is will look good but may not function properly or if he ends the relationship of being my developer, it would be tough to find somebody to work on it.

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers,

    Dave

    Valid concern…

Using a Child Theme is the solution to customizing a theme without modifying files that will be overwritten when the theme is updated.

IMHO, he’s not giving you very good advice (except for his bank account).

Find a reputable theme here and build a child theme on top of that.

I don’t see how he can be so sure that nothing will break especially since he would be doing this just one time while WordPress software changes a little every update.
